The time to take action on Environmental Rights is now.  The Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities convention is happened in Courtenay between April 11 -13. Regional decision-makers voted on a resolution to take to the Union of BC Municipalities convention in September 2015.  This resolution calls for a Provincial Environmental Bill of Rights.  A Provincial Environmental Bill of Rights would be a significant step forward to ensuring the health of our environment and communities it will:

  1. Recognize the right of every resident to live in a healthy environment,
  2. Provide for public participation in decision-making respecting the environment and access to environmental information and
  3. Have whistleblower protection.

We hosted this rally on Friday April 10th to show Vancouver Island Councilors and Mayors that safe and healthy communities are important to Islanders and the these decision makers need to pass the resolution.
